Pray for ideas, not for money

If you had told me this 10 years ago, I would have thought you were crazy. I had just ben fired from my job and I needed money bad, not ideas. Money was all I thought about, and it also seemed the hardest to come by.

In my frantic quest for money, I never once prayed for ideas, for inspiration, for creative solutions to my problem. I just prayed for money (and for another job).

This is where I think I, along with most of the world, miss out.

In our frantic search for quick answers, we want God to just come down and rescue us by dropping some great new opportunity into our laps. And instead of putting in the work of figuring out a creative solution, we sit and wait. We wait for opportunities to come drifting by so we can pluck them out of the water and revel in the ease of it all.

I think God is in the rescuing business for sure, but not when we have a brain between our ears and fingers on our hands waiting to be used, and we are not using them!

It is just easier to have someone else think for us, have someone else risk for us, have someone else tell us what to do.

I know now that ideas, not money would have brought what I truly needed 10 years ago.

You see, immeasurable satisfaction, and confidence come from using our mind to solve problems. That is what it is there for! And ideas acted upon are the key to solving problems!

Therefore, I declare – pray for ideas!

“What brings joy to the morning isn’t the thought that today will be free from problems, or difficulties or troubles, but rather the knowledge that “I can do all things in him who strengthens me.” ~Harold Blake Walker

Absolutely wonderful Claudia – God gave us a mind and imagination so we can join Him in creating! We are created in His image and He is THE Creator of all! So it just makes sense that we should be able to creatively use what He’s given us to improve our lives. Of course, it’s all while trusting Him for the results – but He won’t do what we are able to do. He will do what we cannot. You always inspire me!

Encouraging post Claudia. I too wonder how I would respond if i lost my job.
More details more details!!! I wish you included more of your story of losing your job. I understand if you dont want to share, but it sounds like you have a lot more lessons to share from this experience!

Hahahaaa! Alex, so you were longing to know more of the details huh!?

I was fired on the premise that I wasn’t spiritual enough/lost my enthusiasm. I guess I was enthusiastic during my interview and then they felt like I lost my enthusiasm during my training. I was so frustrated/humiliated at the time but now view it as one of the best things that ever happened to me!

They say you haven’t lived until you have been fired two or three times. I’ve reached the two mark. I think I’m good with that 😉

I write more about getting fired/lessons learned here – http://wholeheartedhuman.com/i-never-saw-it-coming-youre-fired/ -if you want a little more story 😉

Whoa, that’s heavy. Not spiritual enough? That’s….interesting….

I wonder if the Jews should have fired Moses when he struck the rock when he wasn’t being “spiritual” enough…. just being facetious

Yea sometimes we all get some quirky notions in our heads of what exactly it looks like to have a relationship with God…

I am always reminded however that I am also quite capable of being the one throwing stones as well and that keeps me a little more humble 😉
