Speaking Something Into Existence

June 25, 2012

Have you ever been uncomfortable and then someone shouts out something horribly inappropriate or a glass drops and shatters into a million little sparking pieces, shattering with it the awkwardness that lingered just moments before?

It breaks the crust, the dry crunchy crust we put up as people to protect ourselves. So why does that happen? Why does something like a glass breaking change our mood?

There was an inciting incident. Something happened that drew attention away from what was really going on, gave you a split second or couple minute break from the norm of conversation and basically pressed your restart button.

It would be nice to do this in life some days, wouldn’t it? Press a restart button?

So, I think we can do this for ourselves on a regular basis.

Here is how: Speak it into existence.

– You want to have more fun in a situation?

Say loudly with a big smile on your face, “This is sweet! We are going to have a blast, aren’t we?” How can you or those around you resist that? I bet you will end up having more fun.

– You want to love your spouse more?

Yell it from the rooftop, “I love you, Michael; you are awesome!” Well, you would obviously insert another name in there because, sorry, you can’t have him. He is awesome and he is mine.

But, what spouse doesn’t want to hear their lover declare to the world how wonderful they are? I bet your feelings will change towards your spouse as well.

– You want to change the course of your day, maybe have a good day for once?

Wake up, clap your hands, smile and say out loud, “It’s going to be a great day!” Then, jump out of bed and look at yourself in the mirror and laugh a big hearty belly laugh.

I bet you can’t walk away without smiling at yourself, if not on your face at least in your head.

Sometimes that is what you have to do.

You have to speak something into existence and the feelings will follow. They are slow buggers and tend to lag behind dragging their lazy feet on the ground like a child fighting bedtime on a hot summer night. But, they will eventually come around.

Who actually does this crazy speaking into existence thing you say? And why should I do it?

Think about those you absolutely love to be around in your own life. I have realized the people I love to be around speak things into existence all the time and I am simply pulled into their wake.

– They laugh readily.

– They communicate that they enjoy being with you.

– They have fun and proclaim it wildly while doing so.

– They are warm and readily engage.

– They whisper wild ideas of adventures.

– Paint pictures of dreams that long for fulfillment.

– They dream big and follow through on those dreams.

We are attracted to these people like moth to light. We simply love to be in their presence. When they leave it is like a light goes out, like the breath leaves a room.

If you think about it, in essence, they speak their own life into existence.

I have realized that I can do this in my own life, and so can you.

I can be as happy as I choose to be. I can be as full of energy as I choose to be. I can have fun when I choose to have fun and I can speak life into my own life when I choose to.

I don’t mean life in the eternal sense here, but LIFE! That sparkle in your eye, that nagging drive to do something wildly important and impactful. That quickening of your heart and step. That life is waiting to be spoken into existence.

My actions follow my words, my words follow my thoughts. I control my thoughts.

I can speak into existence the course of my life.

Question: Who is one person you like to be around?

One of my favorite quotes, you nabbed it right.  Abraham Lincoln “Most people are just about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”  So true, yet thanks for the reminder here.   My daughter is my little ball of Enthusiasm and Happy for sure.  I wake up sleepy eyed, barely able to make the morning coffee and she runs out of bed exclaiming “What do you want to play today!!”  It’s so nice.   I like this Mary Poppins mindset – “find the element of fun”.  Have a super, duper day – OK!

hahahaaaa I love when you tell stories of your daughter, she sounds like a life lover!

      Blessings today Michael!
