Taking Advantage Of The Springtime

March 19, 2012

The springtime is my favorite time of the year. I love the new growth, the vibrant colors, the longer days, and the warmer weather. Everything comes to life and it’s invigorating!

Just like the seasons of the year, life has seasons. The spring is a time to plan for the future and plant the seeds of tomorrow. It’s doing the things now that are going to pay off down the road.

One of the ways that Claudia and I are doing this is that we’re doing the things necessary to grow my business so that, down the road, we will be able to have a lifestyle that’s centered around what’s important to us.

We’re learning lots and it’s definitely not always easy, but we’re each growing and we are happier than we’ve ever been.

Question: What seeds are you sowing this spring?

It’s great that you and Claudia are sowing seeds for the kind of lifestyle you both want. I am working toward the same thing as I grow my coaching business and my income streams (Beyond Organic and JDI Stem Cell vitamin). I want my husband to be able to retire from teaching and then do something he wants to do and I’d love to be able to quit my part time job and do my coaching and the other things that fit so well with it full time. That’s what I’m working toward and sowing for!

Thanks for the input, Ann. Health and nutrition is so important and I think more and more people are finally realizing that. I don’t doubt that you’ll get there with your coaching business. Keep it up!

Nice post Michael. I too love the spring (but also the Fall alot as well). Spent the afternoon planting lettuce and squash seed. I can see your business doing well. You strike me as having a great teaching spirit, especially for those tough students, that just won’t practice! Music was something I always thought about majoring in, but opted for Engineering, because I was good in math and thought I couldn’t “make money” with music. Not sure if I made a good choice or not, but it’s part of my story, nontheless!

Michael, thanks for your kind words. It’s interesting to see how many people that are gifted in music are also gifted in math. I’m too more “math” oriented verses “english” oriented.

What’s you musical background and do you do anything with it currently?

I was taking piano lessons in 5th grade and liked it, but never stuck with it. Played trombone throughout school and made the Georgia all-state band in Junior High (first one from my school) and kinda “peaked” in my mind, so I asked the band leader to let me learn Baritone as well. I was “too good” so he didn’t want to lose my T-bone skills, so I picked up the guitar at home, never took leasson, but still play, though at home. I used to play worship songs for the elementary kids at church for a couple of years. I have always loved playing in a band and I would love to get together and play music with others, but it seems to be hard to connect with the right people for that (for me at least). Plus it seems to take more time than I can allow to take away from my home life.

    Michael,

Yes, Spring is an awesome time of year. For many years I was sowing seeds of destruction and I had the fruit to prove it. After surrendering my life to Christ, I started sowing good seeds — seeds of victory from God’s Word and I have the fruit to prove it. I have loving relationships. I am healthy. I am debt-free. I am pursuing my dreams and God’s calling in my life. God’s Word says we reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7) and I can certainly attest that His Word is true.

I pray for abundant fruit for you and Claudia as you continue to sow good seeds.

    Have a Victorious Day!

      Marianne,
That’s very kind of you. I appreciate it!

I’m always amazed by that Galatians 6:7 principle, but I see that it’s true too. Sounds like you have quite a story and a lot to be grateful for. It’s so great to see the fruit when the right seeds are sown and then the crop is carefully cared for.

      Thanks for the input!

It’s weird, it seems like it’s been spring for a month or so in Michigan and that is out of the ordinary, but very welcome!

I’m sowing seeds of relationship. With my friends, my family, and my wife. I want to grow closer to others and build upon the relationships that I have.

    • Michael Good March 21, 2012 at 1:02 pm

      Joe,
So it’s warm in Michigan too? It’s been the same here in Pennsylvania, but I’m enjoying it.

That’s an awesome place to sow new seeds and invest. It’ll come back tenfold.

      • Joe Lalonde March 21, 2012 at 1:15 pm

Oh yeah! It’s like summer here. 70s and 80s the last couple of days.

        • Michael Good March 21, 2012 at 1:17 pm

80s?! That’s hotter than here and we’re further south than you!

          • Joe Lalonde March 21, 2012 at 1:39 pm

I know, it doesn’t seem possible but we hit the 80s a couple of times this week. And we have a forecast of 80 today. Almost tempted to go and jump in Lake Michigan!

          • Michael Good March 21, 2012 at 6:34 pm

That’s amazing. We’ll see if this is a foretelling of what the summer is going to be like. Oh, if you jump in Lake Michigan, I want to see some pictures!

          • Joe Lalonde March 22, 2012 at 8:14 am

I’m thinking I’ll hold off on the Lake Michigan jump. Need to wait for the water temps to get a bit warmer. 40 degrees is still cold. But there have been a few crazy souls that we have seen swimming in the lake.

          • Michael Good March 22, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Yeah, that sounds a little cold to me!

I too love this season, but Spring in Georgia is a bitter sweet relationship for me… I love what’s happening around me, with all it’s new growth, though I can’t smell a pollen filled something without sneezing, I still love it… It represents all things new, and to me new beginnings are everything. I use this time to really assess the first quarter of the year, it’s successes, what I’m doing wrong, and what I’m doing right. I’ve already laid out my game plan in the year prior to how I’m going to invest the year, but March is a great benchmark for me to really gauge where I can make the greatest investment for the rest of the year. This investment includes all things; my health, family, business, education, and everything and everyone that I know I’m going to serve… Thanks for the post; I do feel very alive this beautiful March of 2012!

    • Michael Good March 30, 2012 at 9:00 pm

Very cool, Rob! Thanks for the comment. That’s a great plan to use March as a benchmark for the rest of the year.
Sometimes it feels like the year just started and that there hasn’t yet been any time to get things done. However, when I look back over the first quarter, I realize far I’ve actuall come. Onward and upward, sir!

      • robclinton April 3, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Onward and upward! It’s a great vantage point to actually look back and count the benchmarks. We usually find that we did a lot more than we thought… I think it’s those little days along the way that don’t feel like anything huge, but they all add up!
