That was really funny Claudia – since I’m a big dog lover I really appreciate the antics. But the bigger picture is how determined they become when they really want something. It is an interesting dynamic to watch. If only we were that motivated to go after what we really want.

Cindy, I know!!! We can be, we just get distracted by all sorts of stuff that life brings our way, and then forget where we were headed in the first place.

There’s something about focused single-mindedness that can get things accomplished. Do you have a dog now? What kind is it?

That was awesome! Children and animals provide some really insightful lessons if we pay attention. It reminds me of a post Michael Wright did about his puppy – the perseverance and creativity to look outside the box is amazing.

Oh, my… yes they do Ann! πŸ™‚

That goes to show you how smart dogs are! They are amazing animals. Maybe if I thought like a canine sometimes, I’d get more accomplished..;)

      hahaha Michael… or distracted… “Just… gotta… get… that… piece… of… sausage…!!!!!”

Love it, Michael! Life would be simpler, wouldn’t it?

That was hilarious! Thanks for sharing. It just reminds me of the old saying, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” We often limit ourselves from lack of “will” rather than lack of opportunities.

    • Michael Good May 1, 2012 at 2:06 pm

      Hmm, well put, Ryan.

I think you’re exactly correct. All we need is one way to make an opportunity work.

      • Ryan Ash May 1, 2012 at 3:07 pm

I spent quite a while talking to a homeless man last night. In his situation, I can see all sorts of opportunities. When you’re on the bottom, the only direction one can go is up, right? For every opportunity that I mentioned he had an excuse, or had already tried it…supposedly. I think in his case he just didn’t care enough to get off the streets to go do something about it.

Sure, most of us are not on the bottom like him, but sometimes we accept “good enough” when we should be trying to be a more successful husband, father, Christian, mother, leader, etc.

          I agree Ryan!
I keep thinking of that as I am listeneng to the Zappos story. There were so many times when the company seemed done for!! But Tony didn’t give up and just chose to look at a situation differently and he came up with alternative solutions.

Did you get to spend a lot of time with that guy? I’m sure he enjoyed your company!

          • Ryan Ash May 4, 2012 at 9:15 pm

Well, hopefully he enjoyed the food, but I think that I actually frustrated him because I kept pushing him to do stuff that he really didn’t want to do. Whether or not it did any good, I’ll probably never know, but at a minimum I kept him from harassing anyone else for a while. πŸ˜‰

Zappos is definitely a story of persistence/determination!

hahaha… oh dear! Well, you never know how your words could influence someone even years down the road πŸ˜‰

Yeah. Maybe one day he’ll look back and realize that I was right and that he needs to take action himself instead of just waiting on someone else.

That’s a great story, Ryan. Way to take action and actually stop and talk to the guy.

You’re comment reminds me of a book I want to read, Good to Great by Jim Collins.

          • Ryan Ash May 5, 2012 at 9:25 am

            Thanks!

I need to read that book as well. I’ve heard a lot about it, and Ashley has read it and told me about it. This guy just needed to get to “good.” Personally, I’m not satisfied with “good enough,” and I don’t think you guys are either!

          • Michael Good May 5, 2012 at 12:46 pm

Nah, good and mediocre won’t cut it any more.

Amazing video!!!! I might be posting that on http://www.liveitforward.com (will created you guys, of course).

Next time I face a challenge, I’ll look to this video for inspiration.

Sounds good, Kent. I couldn’t believe it the first time I saw it!
