Zig Ziglar says to share your “Give Up” Goals with everyone (for accountability reasons, like losing weight) but be very selective with who you share your “Go Up” Goals with. (i.e. the Baby Dreams – you could do something with that term you’ve coined I would think!)

      Michael,
      I’ve heard a lot of Zig’s stuff but I hadn’t heard this. That’s a great approach.

Good thinking about coining that term. Hmm…

For the fun of it, I had to check to see if babydreams.com was available. It’s not. πŸ™‚

Great advice – I agree – I am careful about who I share certain dreams with and also careful who I ask to pray and for me. “Baby dreams” is a good way to describe the young, fragile stage of beginning dreams. To my way of thinking – dreams come from God – so anyone who would discourage a dream is not the person to share with!

      Ann,
I love your last sentence! You know, I never viewed dreams this way… I was always so hesitant to pursue any of my dreams for fear that I wasn’t being a good Christian if I pursued anything that I enjoyed. Twisted, I now realize…

Excellent thoughts! Ashley and I were just talking the other day about how letting Skyler play by himself is good for his imagination. As an adult, we become too “realistic” sometimes, and if I were to never let Skyler play by himself I feel that I would actually be stifling his creativity by my own sense of “realism.”

It’s just the same, though, when we’re dealing with our dreams…sometimes we need to “play by ourselves” for a while to let our imagination run, or at least not share that dream with someone with an overactive “reality” gene. Lot’s of things that we depend upon today wouldn’t have ever been developed/created if someone hadn’t of done this. If I remember correctly, Henry Ford once said that if he had asked what people wanted they would have told him a faster horse, but he let his imagination run and I’m glad that he did!

      Ryan,
Wow, great comparison! Life lessons straight from the parent πŸ™‚

Haha the overactive “reality” gene made me laugh… Yea I’m sure we have all run into that! It is so rare to run into a person that engages you in your dream and comes along side you…those people are few and far between!

Thanks for these thoughts… I really enjoyed your comment!

This is something I can take and really hold on to. I have a tendency to get really excited about my ideas (I have lots and lots of them) and I share them while they are still in their infancy. I think this is a good thing, when they are shared with the right people, but so many times I have just passed my baby around to anyone that is around. More often than not, the people I pass my baby to are not prepared to hold it. I end up hurt, confused and worst of all – don’t move forward with them.

Thank you for this!I have slowed down with who I share my baby-dreams with, but still could be more selective.

      Alana,
Yeah, I hear you! Others aren’t careful enough with the baby dreams. I think they often don’t realize how fragile they are and are so quick to simply give their opinions.

At least I know that’s how I can be with others sometimes. There’s always room for improvement.

      Thanks for the input!

This is an excellent nugget of truth! We are affected by other opinions whether we think so or not; I believe that. It’s important to save the best stuff for the best people; they are the ones who will lift us up and help us get there. If you have something you believe in and it’s very special to your heart, then the naysayer will only provide resistance… Give your heart to the people who want to lift your heart higher!

Hmmmm “Give your heart to the people who want to lift your heart higher!” yes indeed. Thanks for that!

        You bet, Claudia! Anytime πŸ™‚
