Writing Needed

August 28, 2014

Friends, it feels good to be back! I stepped away from writing for about 3 months while having our 2nd baby, and I have missed it incredibly!

Being away has only affirmed the importance of writing in my mind. I have heard some say there are eyes in pens and pencils, and how true it is! I am convinced we never truly get to know the deepest part of us (the part which begs to be known) until we consistently put ourselves in a quiet place and write. You can finally hear your soul there.

We become dried up, see through, and crusty individuals when we can’t hear our soul.

Words unwritten pile up inside. And when they find no healthy escape, they take on ugly character traits and leak out. They come out as angry, fearful, restless, and confused words.

They come out as words we don’t really mean, and often regret.

Words, whether spoken or thought, direct our entire life. And if we long to do anything of great value with our lives, or be anyone who leaves a legacy, it is vitally important that we know what words are going through our minds.

Writing gets the real stuff out and onto paper where we can stare it in the face. We need to know what we are really looking at before we can change it or unwrap it.

Writing is by far the best way I know of to get inside your own head and heart and figure out who you are and why you are here. It is the most exciting adventure you will ever embark on!

Question: Do you write? How has it changed your life?

Writing is definitely my preferred method of communication – with God, myself and others! It truly helps me unravel my thoughts and feelings. It is SO good to see you back here and I’m so happy your beautiful family has grown with your beautiful little girl. Wishing all 4 of you all the best!

Thanks Ann, it’s great to be back at it! Feeling much more myself again now that Evelina is about 12 weeks old. I’ve missed interacting with you! How has your summer been?

It’s been hectic but very good. Began with my son Matthew’s wedding the end of June and now my hubby goes back to school next week! It’s gone by way too quickly – but it’s been a good one. Evelina must be getting so big! She is beautiful. You have 2 beautiful children.

Great, great thoughts here. Yes, I do write and it is the one and only release for many things bottled upside of me…thanks for sharing.

Thanks Bruce! Things do get bottled up inside. Great description!

Welcome back, Claudia! Speaking of words… you truly have a way of using them! Yes, writing has has also been my way to discover my truest self… I love that idea that pens and paper have eyes! So poetically true!

Thank you dear friend! Oh how they have begged to be written 😉

Writing DOES have eyes, I am sure. I remember one day years ago when I sat down with my journal and decided to just write words, single words, one per line of the page. As I was doing it I felt silly. It felt random and unconnected to me. When I was done, I was amazed at the outcome. The words, single and seemingly unconnected opened my eyes to what what really going on inside of me. They were so direct, so randomly spot on that it took my breath away and gave me great insight as to what was really going on inside my heart.

I guess writing that way let me step away from blaming and helped me see in words my part in the story I was living.

I never looked back after that day 😉

Thanks, Claudia! There’s nothing like a good kick in the seat of the pants! I think I could use some time in a quiet place with pen and paper. I hope you guys are doing great and enjoying the new blessing!

Yes Ryan, everyone needs a quiet place to get thoughts untangled, thats for sure!

We are doing good! Thanks for your comment. 3 Months truly felt like we hit a milestone with baby and adjusting to two!

Welcome back and congratulations on your expanding family!

I love this: “Words unwritten pile up inside. And when they find no healthy escape, they take on ugly character traits and leak out. They come out as angry, fearful, restless, and confused words.”

It seems that way for some, but others don’t have this same desire. Maybe it’s a gene! 🙂

    • Claudia Good September 4, 2014 at 9:22 pm

Thanks Skip! Feels great to be writing again 😉

Haha, are you wondering if some just have the writing gene? If that is what you meant, I definitely think you are right! Writing do doubt, comes easier for some than others… but it still seems to be the best way I have found (or read of) to get inside your own head!

      Joy to you!

I think if you have a gift…whether writing, painting, sculpting, organizing, decorating……….and on and on…..you simply HAVE to give it release in some way or it does damage to your spirit. Julia Cameron says if you don’t releasse your creativity it can lead to depression and illness. I totally agree. I, too, have words……zillions of words…..always bursting to get out of my body……in writing, talking, speaking, teaching, etc. It’s good you recognize your gifts, Claudia! You are a great writer. I love reading your letters. I love being your pen pal! I love you! jfm

      Joanne,
“You simply HAVE to give (creativity) release in some way or it does damage to your spirit” I love how you said this, and it is what impacted me so much after reading your book!!!! It is crazy how often we are tempted to set aside what fills us the most because of time, or money, or fear, or various other reasons. We were created to create and this is also what fills us with immense fulfillment!!
I really appreciate your thoughts here! and I love our zillion word letters Joanne! 😉 Love you!
