21 Reasons To Decide What You Are Doing With Your Life

August 31, 2012

What is indecision anyway? And what exactly happens in our hearts when we are indecisive? How do we make a decision? Why do we need to make decisions? Is indecision really so bad? I can’t decide.

The Free Dictionary describes indecision this way: Reluctance or an inability to make up one’s mind; irresolution

Examples:

1: indecision – doubt concerning two or more possible alternatives or courses of action; “His indecision was only momentary but the opportunity was lost.”

2: indecision – the trait of irresolution; a lack of firmness of character or purpose; “The king’s incurable indecisiveness caused turmoil in his court.”

Opportunity lost, turmoil, and lack of character? Does indecision really go this deep, is it really this important?

I want some answers! I decided to see what some other wise people had to say on the subject.

I will leave you with 21 quotes. I think the following words will change your life! They have mine! 😉

Just what I was talking about yesterday-indecision!  I loved the quotes, especially #1, 8, 9, 12 and 17.  I’m ususally very decisive about things in my life so when faced with any indecisiveness, I don’t like it.  I am one that usually makes decisions quick-not always for the good but always a good learning process even if it wasn’t the best decision.  This weekend I’m staying with my elderly mom who has dementia so my sister, who is her caregiver, can go on vacation.  While there, I will do #17 and see what I get!  Great post.

God bless you and your sister, Donna.  #17 is how my oldest son chose between the 4 colleges he was accepted to!

Awesome Donna! I’m glad you will have some time to be able to think through things! So necessary! Hope you found peace and clarity!

Haha Claudia that’s a great list!  I love every one of those quotations!  It made me think about James 1:6 & 7 –   “But
when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not
waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of
the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.  Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”  When we keep changing our minds and decisions almost always the result is – NOTHING!  It’s like when my daughter was in elementary school and had a multiple choice test.  Pretty much every time she went back and changed her first answer, it was wrong.  I have learned to trust my first instinct and use peace as a barometer – and once I’ve done whatever research I need to and gotten advice – I try and decide quickly and then just go with that.  Joyce Meyer talks about trying to decide if doing something was from God and she said she kept going back and forth afraid to make a mistake.  Finally God told her – just do it, if you make a mistake, I correct your path!  Sometimes we worry too much!

Well said Ann.  Mistakes are how we learn if we will.

Great verse, Ann. Thanks for sharing!

    • Claudia Good September 5, 2012 at 12:15 am

Indeed Ann! Sometimes we do worry too much, I agree!

Thanks for that verse and story… powerful and encouraging as always with your stories! 😉

I’m getting much better at making decisions quickly as I get older.  I think it’s because I’ve realized that most decisions aren’t life threatening, they can be corrected if need be.  I don’t have long to live to be held captive by Analysis Paralysis.

I’ll add #23 to the list.  A clever line from Rush’s song “Freewill” – “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice!”

Great quote, Michael. I think your approach is great. Most are NOT life threatening!

  • jodyberkey September 26, 2012 at 1:44 pm

I’ve gotten a lot better with making quicker decisions over the past few months.  Once I publicly commit to something, it’s a lot harder to go back and risk look foolish and losing credibility.

    • Claudia Good September 27, 2012 at 9:27 pm

      Totally true Jody!
What helped you become a quicker decision maker?

      • jodyberkey September 27, 2012 at 9:33 pm

Being unemployed and homeless helps with making faster decision 🙂

Hah! Yeah, I guess that’d make a difference!
