Your mind is much better than you think

Did you know your brain can learn 7 facts per second, every second, for the rest of your life and still not be one bit overloaded?! In 1968, Pyotr Anokhin of Moscow demonstrated that the minimum number of potential thought patterns the average brain can make is the number 1 followed by 10.5 million kilometers of typewritten zeros!!!

Hardly any of us use our minds to their true capacity. In fact, most people try to numb their minds because they feel restless and unhappy. They don’t like their lives, but are too lazy or fearful to do anything about it.

The only one that can change your life is you and the first step to changing your life is to put new thoughts into your mind.

I find that if I don’t put healthy new thoughts into my head every single day, I feel bored and restless. This leads to discouragement which makes it is easy to fall into habits of complaining and having a poor attitude. However, the more I feed my mind and stimulate my thinking, the more I challenge myself to learn something new and think in new directions, the more fulfilled and encouraged I feel.

I’ve heard people say they are too tired to listen a program or read a book and that they just need to decompress in silence or by watching TV. Ok, but what is your mind going to be thinking about during the silence or after you are finished watching TV if you haven’t put anything new or encouraging into it? It will be thinking about the same thing it was before. Or worse.

Even 10 minutes of listening to an inspirational podcast can change the course of your thoughts for an entire day!

Our minds crave new thoughts to munch and crunch on throughout the day. Listening to music or the news just doesn’t cut it. And neither does just rolling out of bed and staring into a cup of coffee for inspiration – because what is already rolling around in your head is what is going to keep rolling around in your head until it is replaced with new thoughts.

Our minds are begging to be used and challenged, to feel nurtured and stimulated. Get some new thoughts in there and get your life moving in a different direction!

Claudia I’m with you! I have to constantly be reading, studying or listening to teaching and filling my mind with positive thoughts and new ideas. Sometimes I need a break but too long in front of the TV is definitely counter-productive – for me anyway!

Yes indeed Ann! We had to get rid of our TV because I always found myself plopped in front of it at a moments notice and spending hours there. I think we got rid of it almost 3 years ago now and I have loved the hours of life I have gained 🙂

AMM: I assume that Barry, like a lot of people, likes to talk about misogynist acts rather than misogynist people. I see a lot of similar tactics in anti-racism.Are you saying that he would never call a person a misogynist? Would he, for example, not call Rush Limbaugh (or the Catholic church) misogynist, but rather a person/organization who occasionally does misogynistic things? For that matter, would he say that Hitler was not an anti-semite, but rather someone who did some anti-semitic things? If not, where would he — or you — draw the line?

I agree, Claudia, not only for personal growth but to keep our mind from deteriorating. I know first hand what dementia looks like from my mother. There is of course no guarantee that reading, studying, and staying engaged prevents dementia, but there are studies that do say it helps so I too am always reading and listening to something to learn and grow.
