Crossing The Sahara On A Scooter

June 20, 2012

We blog everyday. We started with the goal of of blogging for 365 days straight not knowing where it would lead.

It has now turned into a passion! Blogging has quickly wiggled it’s way deep into our beings, and we are most gladly hooked!

Some of our posts are long, some are short. Some are written late at night, some early in the morning. We haven’t hit our true stride yet, but we are consistent. Consistency helps propel us forward because by it we gain momentum.

People often say they don’t know how we have time to do it. Somedays I don’t either. But because we have made it a priority, we do it. It isn’t a choice, we don’t think about whether we feel like it or not, we just do it.

And that choice has been one of the best of our lives!

I guess it is like anything that you decide is important in your life. You draw a line in the sand and never look back.

Well, maybe you look back when you are trudging through the middle. But you can’t see where you started from anymore, so you don’t have a choice but to keep going forward.

So, on we go with excitement and anticipation as to what the future holds.

I’ve compiled a list of five things we have learned on our journey so far.

1. When your heart is begging you to start something, do it. Plan it out, do a good job at it and be consistent. There is no better feeling.

2. When you set out to do something, keep in mind that there is a middle. The middle is as vast as the Sahara desert and just as hot. The progress you make in the middle feels as slow as using a push scooter to cross that very Sahara I just spoke of. You can’t see where you are going or where you came from but eventually you will cross it. Just keep moving forward.

3. Taking stock of what is happening is vitally important. Don’t be afraid to realign often. Toss out the bad, unused, and rotten and take care of what is good and grow it. Grow it into the biggest, healthiest whatever you have ever seen.

4. Challenge yourself to do something you thought you could never do. And actually do it. The feeling you get will be so incredible and addictive, you will want to do something else awesome and something else even more awesome. Soon, you will turn into a ball of awesomeness and productivity.

5. Join forces with someone. When one person is feeling weak the other can come beside to encourage and uplift. Having a source of support is crucial. If you don’t have it, pursue it, find it, nurture it, treasure it.

Now, go rock the world in your own awesome way!

Question: How are you planning on using your unique awesomeness to change the world? I see that hand, you in the back, yes… ?

Claudia – you are motivating as always!  The part about the middle is SO true!  We get excited at the beginning of things and the end is always satisfying – but many times we forget about the dreaded middle!  But to get from one place to the next we must go through it!  Making it a priority is also something we sometimes don’t do that can make all the difference.  It just as – or maybe even more – important to keep your word to yourself.  So if you make what Kenneth Copeland calls a “quality decision” to do something – your credibility with yourself is on the line!  It exercises, builds and strengthens your will when you do what you set out to.  I applaud you and Michael!

      Thanks Ann!

Your sentence strikes me … “It just as – or maybe even more – important to keep your word to yourself.”

Awesome post, full of awesome motivation! Thanks for this…. I was talking with someone earlier today about the middle of the year, 6 months into it and you have been trudging hard at some goals you set out to accomplish and it can feel like that sahara desert for sure!

It’s important to keep pushing, and not give up… It’s very easy at this point to change directions at the next shiniest object you see,
but it’s important to keep pushing, and not give up… It’s so easy to just start all over, and say we’ll try again later,
but again… it’s important to keep pushing, and not give up…

Yeah, we may readjust and do things a little different, but accomplish the goals overall, and look back at a successful year… Anything we can do to keep pushing, especially keep accountability partners in our circle is sooo important….

But the bottome line is, keep pushing, and not give up… Thanks again for this post! We all need to hear it, always…

      Rob,
      I don’t have shiny object syndrome… I don’t know what you’re talking about 😉

Thanks for your encouragement here! It’s like you have to put those blinders on that the carriage horses wear and just keep pulling!

So excited to see where this road will take us…

Very good writing, Claudia.  My pastor reminds us that any worthwhile en-devour has 3 Zones – the Promise, Process and Payoff…we like to jump from Promise to Payoff, but the middle Zone (Process) can seem like a desert at times.  You just gotta keep walking it with your view of the Promise in the distance.  You two are doing it and motivating others to do the same.  Can’t say enough of how motivational it is to see you two on your journey.

I’m just trying to be the best dad and husband I can be. That really is my foundation that I want to build influence from. It’s a work in progress for sure…

      Michael,
You are a true encourager! Bless you!

I like how your pastor phrased that – 3 zones – promise, process and payoff. Easy to remember and keep in mind that there are 3, not 2 😉

    Love these lines:

“We haven’t hit our true stride yet, but we are consistent. Consistency helps propel us forward because by it we gain momentum.”

Keep moving forward! And stick-to-it: http://www.liveitforward.com/key-to-success-stick-to-it-tiveness/
