Recently, I was listening to an interview with Hal Elrod, author of Miracle Morning. He talked about clarity and how it’s the foundation for all success.
“Clarity is the starting place of all success. And if you think of it, that would mean that extraordinary success requires extraordinary clarity. The problem is, most people go through life with a very mediocre level of clarity regarding specifically what they want for their lives.” – Hal Elrod
It’s just like my mentor, Dan Miller, says how 85% of the process of success is looking inward.
Once we’re clear on who we are and what we want out of life, we can move forward with confidence and purpose.
I’m reminded of the Abraham Lincoln quote:
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” (click to tweet)
When we take the time to gain clarity, we’re sharpening the axe.
For me, I’m an achiever. I like to do things. Sitting down and being introspective wasn’t something that came naturally. However, I saw the strength and confidence that came out of those times, and I was hooked.
Action items
So, here’s a starting place for more clarity. Quick grab a pen and paper and take 10 minutes to answer the follow questions:
1. If anything was possible and I wasn’t worried about what other people thought, what are 5 characteristics or attributes I would like to have?
2. Are there any mindsets or ways of thinking that aren’t serving me anymore and that I need to give up in order to get to that next level?
3. Identify one thing that’s working in each of the following areas:
– my relationships
– my work
– my personal life
How could I increase the frequency and consistency of those things?
Remember, clarity is the foundation for all success. Take just a couple of minutes to get clear on who you are and what you want out of life. You’ll be glad you did!
