Love 41 And Calling For Help

July 13, 2012

Today I am going to share a short video that really hit home for me. This is Suzette Munson with Love 41.

Love 41 is a retail business that sells handmade and unique items from around the world. Our profit will go towards helping orphans, widows and street kids in third world countries by educating, training, feeding, and showing them acts of compassion.

Suzette and Love 41 inspire me to do something I love and change the world while doing it. Check out her complete story here. This video challenged me to reach out more often when I need help.

Hope this challenges you as it did me!

Question: Do you ask for help when you need it?

Love 41 is an awesome business. Picked up a pair of earrings for my wife and she loves them.

I’m one that struggles with asking for help. I was raised as a “help yourself, get yourself out” type of guys.

Oh cool Joe! That was a great idea!

Wow, I hear ya Joe! Did you hear Andy Andrews talk about that recently? It was great. I “reason with myself and reason myself out” 🙂

I’m not sure. That quote sounds vaguely familiar. Was it on his podcast?

Claudia – I’ve always been the independent, do-it-yourself, kind of gal. But an event  years ago brought me to a place of having to ask for help. At the time it was difficult, but now I actually find it freeing to ask when I can’t do something. It also saves a lot of frustration.

For me it took that event to begin to get the rusty wheels moving. Today it’s a well oiled machine and working quite well…all because I asked.

      Cindy,
haha, so the rusty wheels are a well oiled machine now huh!? That is a great story!

It’s hard to ask for help personally.  Not sure if it is part man-ego or what.  I recently paid for some 1 on 1 coaching and it did a world of good.  We weren’t meant to be Lone Rangers.

I hear you, Michael. Glad to hear coaching with Jonathan went well!

Actually, Claudia, I’ve always found it difficult to ask for help.  I love helping other people and look for opportunities to do so, but asking for help has never been easy for me.  I am definitely getting better about that – there is SO much I don’t know and need help with!!  Something I read in the Thought Tools book Rabbi Lapin wrote is that if you want someone (particularly your children or family) to love you more, let them do things for you.  What wisdom that man has!!  I have been blessed when people offered help when they saw I needed it (like Michael did when my comments were not showing up!!) but I promise I’m getting better about asking.

      Ann,
Thanks for that tip from Rabbi Lapin! That is powerful and hard for -I think- most people to do!
It really is for me as well!

I love talking to people on the phone when I feel great and in control, but when I am sad or need help is when I ask for it least. That is why I loved what she said here 😉 and I am right with you. I am getting better as well.

Michael loved helping you. Made him feel like a hero he said 🙂

He most definitely was a hero – my computer hero!

          hahah – that is awesome!
