21 Reasons To Decide What You Are Doing With Your Life

August 31, 2012

What is indecision anyway? And what exactly happens in our hearts when we are indecisive? How do we make a decision? Why do we need to make decisions? Is indecision really so bad? I can’t decide.

The Free Dictionary describes indecision this way: Reluctance or an inability to make up one’s mind; irresolution

Examples:

1: indecision – doubt concerning two or more possible alternatives or courses of action; “His indecision was only momentary but the opportunity was lost.”

2: indecision – the trait of irresolution; a lack of firmness of character or purpose; “The king’s incurable indecisiveness caused turmoil in his court.”

Stuck in a Rut and Splattering Crud

August 30, 2012

Ruts of the mind are commonplace. They happen to all of us from time to time. We get stuck thinking a certain way about a situation and don’t change or take needed action. We just sit there spinning.

Just as a tire stuck in mud spins and splatters, so do we when we are stuck. We splatter mud all over ourselves and everyone around us. We spew words in frustration and confusion.

When we are stuck, we also have the tendency to grab on to anyone or anything nearby to help pull us out. Most times, this isn’t healthy.

Here are 5 things I use to eliminate mind-ruts:

Why Your Husband Needs Your Support

August 29, 2012

Embarking on our entrepreneurial pursuits has actually been incredible for our marriage. Here are six things I have learned about supporting Michael and why it is so important.

Us

1. He needs encouragement from me: Michael, just as any human being that is breathing, needs encouragement from me. Every day, no exceptions!

2. We need to be a united front: No matter what, Michael and I are on the same team. We move together, we make decisions together. Both of us are all in, or we do not move forward!

3. Take interest: I take interest in Michael’s business ventures and hobbies. I ask questions and listen. It makes Michael happy, which makes me happy. When you take an interest in others, good things happen!

August 28, 2012

It can be so easy to get stuck in a rut and get super narrow-minded. When this happens, life pretty much stinks. You think, “I’m just going to have to slog it out here at this ol’ job.” Or, “Well, we’re just going to have to drive this old junker car because that’s all we have money for.”

Most times, when you’re in a tough spot, you’re just one good idea away from a solution. Here are 32 unique ways to generate new ideas:

1. Sleep with your head at the foot of the bed

2. Write with a different pen

3. Go jump roping

4. Go for a run shirtless (for guys only)

Health Insurance for Self-Employed – Our Policies and Premiums

August 27, 2012

We receive a lot of questions about our health insurance since becoming self-employed. People often ask what we do now that we’re running our own business full-time with Claudia working only part-time. So, I thought it might be helpful to give you a quick rundown of our solution. It’s less complicated (and less expensive) than most people think.

Self-Employment and Health Insurance

My insurance:

For me, I have a Health Savings Account (HSA) through Aetna. This is a policy with a higher deductible ($5000) that’s very affordable. With an HSA, a pretax savings account is paired with your plan to use for medical expenses. With this type of plan, I pay for everything up to $5000, then the insurance takes over 100% (see policy details here).

Don’t Blink – Your Season is Now

August 24, 2012

While walking with my son at the park, something caught my eye on the path just ahead. It was a leaf. I had seen it drop, spiraling from the tree just moments earlier.

The fallen leaf

It landed without a sound about six feet in front of me. It landed and just sat there on the path. I stood there, staring at it.

I don’t know what I expected it to do, maybe scream as it was falling, or act like it was choking to death because, afterall, it was the end for the leaf.

I stared at the brown, shriveled replica of what just weeks previously had been a lush, green leaf. It had lived its season. Had its time, and now, it was done.

I’m Doing Great, Thanks!

August 23, 2012

As I walked into a retail store recently to perform a mystery shopping job, I was greeted, “Hi, how are you?” The greeting seemed kind but robotic. I responded with a smile and a brief, “Fine, thanks.”

“Oh rats!” I thought. “I didn’t mean to say that!”

A bit ago I determined within myself to say, “I’m great” in response to the “How are you” question. I have found it surprisingly hard.  It wasn’t that I didn’t feel great, I did. It was said more out of habit and the fact if I said I was great, I would be standing out from all the “I’m fine” people.
