Why Are You Throwing Your Idea Away?

August 21, 2012

Most people throw out an idea before it is ever give a chance to reach it’s full potential. Ideas, like plants, need time to grow.

They need to be planted and cultivated. They need to be cared for and given a healthy environment in which to thrive. Just as a small tender plant doesn’t grow in the cold, harsh winter, neither will an idea.

Ideas need fertile ground and sunlight. They need vision and hope.

What if the “crazy thought” you just had could be your next great idea which could lead to fulfilling a lifelong dream?

How I Get Free Advice From Experts

August 20, 2012

In the process of starting a business or venturing out and doing something different in life, I’ve found personal advice from experts to be crucial. While there are plenty of resources like books and programs that are a wealth of knowledge, I believe there’s a special place for personal advice.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the best way to do this is to hire an expert and have them really dig in and help you with your unique situation. I know when I paid to join Free Agent Academy, I found the coaching and advice invaluable. However, if you know where to look, many times experts are freely giving their advice away. You can even get your own unique questions answered. Below are three ways I’ve done this.

I Looked Consistency In The Eye And It Winked At Me

August 17, 2012

Over the years, consistency and I have had a few run-ins and we haven’t always hit it off so well.

world map

Someone who is super consistent is Chris Guillebeau. He has traveled extensively and is actually on route to travel to every single country in the world by the time he turns 35!

This guy is cool. He sets big, ginormous goals and then figures out a way to make them happen (reminds me of my Michael). 😉

Loose Change Didn’t Get Us To Switzerland

August 16, 2012

When Michael and I got married, our dream was to honeymoon in Switzerland.

We didn’t have much money, so we decided to save all of our change in Mason jars till the wedding and “Hopefully” we thought, “It will be enough to buy us plane tickets to Switzerland.”

We didn’t work hard or plan, we just dropped the change from our pockets into jars at the end of each day.

As we drove to Maine for our honeymoon some months later, I remember looking at Michael and laughing at our lofty but poorly thoughtout dream. For some reason, I just “hoped” the money in those jars would just multiply like the loaves and fishes.

Our Custom Art Piece

August 15, 2012

We recently mentioned in our Sunday video that we had some awesome people stop by to do an interview with us on their way to NYC.

What we didn’t mention is that they brought along an artist/visionary named Randall Gingerich to draw us a picture. While we told our story, he sat and listened and drew a picture, a representation of our lives as he saw and hear it.

It really meant a lot to us. Randall’s gift was a great reminder that we all have different gifts and skills and there is no end to the ways in which they can be used.

The Horse Whisperer Whispered Something To Me

August 14, 2012

If any of you have ever seen the movie “The Horse Whisperer” you will remember the part of the horse whisperer being played by Robert Redford.

The actual horse whisperer, the one that the movie was based on, is a man named Buck Brannaman. A documentary was done on Buck recently, appropriately called Buck, that told his life story. I watched it and my life will never be the same.

This is a man who has allowed his less-than-perfect past to push him into becoming something great.

The Continuum of Different Business Models

August 13, 2012

When wanting to break away from a traditional 9-5, something to consider is the different types of business models. I see this as a continuum where on one end you have a business that pretty much looks like a traditional job, and on the other end you have something that’s radically different.

The Continuum of Different Business Models

Something to consider when you’re thinking of self-employment and starting a business is what you want the business to look like, what will fit you best, and what will give you the best shot at success. Below are some of the different models to consider.
