Einstein Did It

July 3, 2012

Doing work that I love has never been an issue for me. It was never even in the picture. I never thought of it as a priority. Money was the priority, and having a job that was secure was the priority.

– Albert Einstein

It was never said directly, just taught through thousands of interactions with people who were doing work that they didn’t enjoy just to pay the bills. Work that was truly enjoyed was strictly limited to hobbies.

The Lie:

Go to college to get a job. Major in something profitable. As long as it pays plenty of money and you basically enjoy it, you are golden.

Month In Review For June 2012

July 2, 2012

As we charge into the month of July, summer is in full swing here in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. We had temperatures in the upper 90’s for a good portion of the week with the wonderful east coast humidity.

This has been an incredible month for Claudia and me! We met up with some old and new friends of ours for a mastermind meetup. We started the 30 Day Focus Challenge with about 25 other people and everyone is making great progress towards their goals. We even got to take a buggy ride (video) in Pennsylvania Amish country!

The traffic on the site continues to grow. The unique visitors were down slightly, but the overall visits and pageviews were up by a significant amount. Thanks for spreading  Continue Reading

Realign Your Life

June 29, 2012

There comes a time in any project or venture where you need to step back, reevaluate, realign if necessary, and then get moving again.

I know this has been true for Claudia and me. What we’ve found happening was things that were important to us were getting pushed to the wayside. The seemingly urgent things were overflowing their boundaries.

For instance, our relationship is the foundation to all that we do. Keeping it nurtured through constant investments of time is very important to us.

Jarring And Upturning Change

June 28, 2012

We just changed the paper on our wall of inspiration today. It is clean, white and just waiting for wonderfully inspiring words and to be scribbled all over it.

It has been about 2 months since we changed it and I have been hesitating to do so because I was sentimental. A lot of work had gone into gathering and writing quotes and goals and encouragement. I didn’t want to just tear it down.

I noticed, however, that with time I had stopped actually reading what the words said. I just found myself looking at the pretty colors and how the words twirled about on the crisp white paper.

The impact was gone. It was time to change it.

Fresh inspiration was around the corner, waiting for an open space to pounce on. Waiting for the change to whisk away the old and make it new again.

Meeting Good Friends In Person

June 27, 2012

Claudia and I just got back from spending three days with some good friends. We met up in a little town called Confluence, Pennsylvania at a bed and breakfast. We had folks there from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, and Texas.

Our view

We’ve realized the value of meeting with people who are doing similar things to what we’re doing. It can be a great time of encouraging one another and brainstorming new ideas.

This meetup was just that. We were able listen and share and get to know each other even better.

Draw A Line In The Sand

June 26, 2012

Wanting to make a big life change or starting a new project or venture takes commitment. It takes drawing a proverbial line in the sand and saying, “I am not going back to where I was before. From this moment forward, I am going to do things differently! I am going to make this work.”

It is almost a year since Claudia and I drew perhaps our most significant line in the sand. It was the weekend of July 4th and, for the first time, we really thought about what direction we wanted our lives to go. For the first time, we committed goals to paper… with deadlines. We draw a proverbial line in the sand and were not going back.

On many occasions we point back to that weekend and are amazed at how taking those simple steps have greatly impacted where we are today.

Speaking Something Into Existence

June 25, 2012

Have you ever been uncomfortable and then someone shouts out something horribly inappropriate or a glass drops and shatters into a million little sparking pieces, shattering with it the awkwardness that lingered just moments before?

It breaks the crust, the dry crunchy crust we put up as people to protect ourselves. So why does that happen? Why does something like a glass breaking change our mood?

There was an inciting incident. Something happened that drew attention away from what was really going on, gave you a split second or couple minute break from the norm of conversation and basically pressed your restart button.
