Risking owning it

June 27, 2014

unnamed

We’ve all been giving gifts and abilities, thoughts and ideas. We’ve all been put here with a purpose.

But too many people just kind of go through life coasting along. Not believing they really have anything of significance to offer.

They think that they’re somehow second class. That those who are more successful have been given a greater purpose. There was a time I thought this way too.

But then I realized something interesting.

How are you talking about that thing you’re doing?

Not long ago, one of the pastors from our church stopped by to see us and pray for our new baby girl, Evelina. As we were talking, he was telling us about a project he and his family have been working on.

They call it Jesse’s Jar. The project helps children and families affected with special needs by selling quality products which are creatively packaged in Mason jars!

What I loved about our conversation was how he talked about his project. He was very excited and it was clear that he had a real vision for what they were doing.

Here’s where success starts (with 3 action items)

Recently, I was listening to an interview with Hal Elrod, author of Miracle Morning. He talked about clarity and how it’s the foundation for all success.

“Clarity is the starting place of all success. And if you think of it, that would mean that extraordinary success requires extraordinary clarity. The problem is, most people go through life with a very mediocre level of clarity regarding specifically what they want for their lives.” – Hal Elrod

It’s just like my mentor, Dan Miller, says how 85% of the process of success is looking inward.

6 things I learned from the birth of our 2nd child

Evelina Pearl Good

This past Monday morning, Claudia and I welcomed our new baby daughter into this world, Evelina Pearl Good. A 9 lb 2 oz bundle of pure joy!

The birth of a baby is an exciting time. Sure, it’s a bit of an adjustment having a newborn to take care of and going from a family of 3 to 4, but we couldn’t be more thrilled!

There are lots of things to learn from the birth of a child, but today I wanted to share six with you that stood out to me. Here they are:

Baby Good and new posting schedule

May 27, 2014

photo 2

As I write this post baby #2 is due any day. It has been quite a wild ride this time around with moving, and pregnancy, and a 2 year old. But Michael and I sat in our beautiful yard this afternoon and reveled in the fullness of where we are at in life.

It is wild and wonderful and we have never been more thankful to be on the journey together.

Jack Canfield was quoted as saying “If you want the fastest road to success, get married, start a family, and start a business.” Check, check, and check!

3 reasons to take a detour when you’re feeling stuck [VIDEO]

May 20, 2014

In the spirit of trying something different, I’m sharing a video with you today. In it, I share 3 reasons to take a detour when you’re feeling stuck.

They are as follows:

1. You’ll experience increased energy

It’s so easy to fall into a rut and continue doing what we’ve always done, even when we’re frustrated and not getting the results we want.

I have a home office which I often work out of. While I love the convenience of working right from home, sometimes I can go a little stir crazy not leaving the house.

When this happens, I’ve found it’s really helpful to get out of the house and work from somewhere else, like a nearby coffee shop. It gets me out of my funk and gets my energy back up again.

Someday syndrome

May 13, 2014

20140510-221927

We all have things that we say we’re going to do “someday.”  It might be going into business for ourselves, going on a big family adventure, or spending more time with our spouse.

We have a tendency to think, “When I have more time and/or money, then I’ll be able to do those things.”

But for most people “someday” never becomes a reality. This is “someday syndrome,” and if we fall prey to it, it will rob us of our life.

Are you thinking in circles?

May 10, 2014

photo

I recently heard most people think an average of 60,000 thoughts a day. But of those thoughts, 95% are the very same thought patterns as the day before. That means most people simply think in circles from one day to the next!

This is shocking! Especially because I think we would all assume we are thinking new thoughts every day with a few repeats mixed in, not the other way around!

It just illustrates the EXTREME importance of introducing new thoughts into our minds (through reading, listening to podcasts, and expanding our social circles) if we have any hope of changing our habits, thought patterns, and relationships!

How can any of us expect to grow and change if 95% of our thought patterns are exactly the same? It would be like asking a fish to climb a tree. Not happening.

A man, a dream, and a tractor

May 6, 2014

A lot of people have big dreams of things they want to do in life. But how many people actually get around to doing anything about those dreams? Sadly, not that many.

I was excited to read an article in the paper last week how one local man is doing something about his dream.  C. Ivan Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, PA is driving his 1948 two-cylinder tractor across America in an expedition called Across America for Wounded Warriors.
