Realign Your Life

June 29, 2012

There comes a time in any project or venture where you need to step back, reevaluate, realign if necessary, and then get moving again.

I know this has been true for Claudia and me. What we’ve found happening was things that were important to us were getting pushed to the wayside. The seemingly urgent things were overflowing their boundaries.

For instance, our relationship is the foundation to all that we do. Keeping it nurtured through constant investments of time is very important to us.

This hasn’t happened as much as we’d like lately. It’s gotten pushed aside by our many other “urgent” commitments and activities. We have realized what is happening and are in the process of realigning to get back on track.

We are committed to not letting other areas take precedence over our marriage and are therefore looking into what needs to be changed or cut out.

This is just one area of our life that we are realigning. We are also looking at things like my business, our social lives, personal time, and finances to name a few.

We are realizing that this needs to be done every three months to keep us on a track of constant and never ending improvement.

Question: Have you taken the time to realign lately?

In the past year, not really. It’s something I should take the time to do again. Make sure values and ideals are still lined up.

Exactly, Joe. Plus, we’re now halfway through 2012 so it’s a good time to look at the goals we set at the beginning of the year.

Ann, good way to put it. This was one of our take aways from our meetup with friends earlier in the week. Also, we’re now halfway through 2012 so it’s a good time to pull the map out again!

      Michael,
This is a cool plan for you guys!! Where did you get the idea??

TV was a huge temptation for us (especially me!!!)… we got rid of it and it changed our lives completely!!
awhile back I wrote this post about it –  http://wholeheartedhuman.com/i-could-have-flown-to-australia-and-back-95-times/

Thanks Claudia! Uhh…I don’t really remember. I think I got the general idea of tracking something I want to improve from either Dave Ramsey, or The Art of Manliness. I’m full of creative ideas and kind of came up with the rest on my own. I was thinking of my wife when I incorporated the decorative aspect because she enjoys interior design.

TV is a brain killer. I haven’t watched actual TV in about 10 years. Jana and I only rent movies. I got my life back when I cut regular TV watching out. However with the advent of Hulu and other video streaming media the idol stealthily crept back into our lives. That’s why we do this marble thing now. I feel productive again! 🙂

          Michael,
That is awesome that you recognized what was happening and took action.

I like that you thought of your wife with the decorating aspect of your idea as well – good work! 😉

Drift.  It happens so quickly without notice.  Yes, I have to catch myself all the time when I need to realign.   My Queen does it more frequently in regards to martial relationship as she is quick to notice any bumps in the road.  She doesn’t let the sun set on any issues, for sure.
