“A wise man will make more opportunity then he finds.”
– Francis Bacon
I love this quote because it’s a testament to action. To doing something. We cannot simply sit back and wait for that perfect moment when everything is just how we want it.
Claudia and I kept putting off starting a family because it just “didn’t seem like the right time.” We were waiting on a number of things including the purchase of a particular business.
The problem was we were working on this purchase for a long time with no real progress or definite feedback from the seller. There were bits and pieces, enough to keep us hopeful. We reviewed the financials and I was meeting with an advisor too. However, the seller was stalling.
So, we waited. And waited. And kept waiting… I’d talk to him again but couldn’t get anything concrete out of him.
This went on for FOUR years! Four frustrating long years!
We FINALLY decided we couldn’t put our lives on hold any longer and went forward with starting a family. Sheesh!
Since then, everything has changed! We’re no longer going to buy that business, my relationship with Claudia is SO much better than before, we’re happier, and we feel like we got our lives back. Oh, and I didn’t even mention that we have a beautiful son named Jude!
We were waiting for everything to be perfect and were living this empty miserable existence. When we finally took a step of faith, things got so much better! No, we’re not rich yet… money is much tighter than ever. Our world is still spinning pretty fast after the birth of Jude. There now seems to be less time in the day to do more things than I ever had to do before.
But, you know what? I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I feel more alive than ever. For sure! There’s, really for the first time ever, a real purpose and passion in my life. Our future has never looked brighter!
Love this! I have a quote I think of often…’I do. Therefore, I learn.’ It reminds me to move forward…even as I am feeling scared and uncertain. It reminds me that mistakes and are part of life. That acting may not be easy. BUT, this is how I learn. And make progress. You guys rock. 🙂
Love that quote, Char! Reminds me of a Dan Miller podcast where he talks about, “just getting in the game.” This works so much better than being passive.
Get out there and do something! It’ll spur creativity and you’ll come up with all these new ideas.
yeah. that is good. I think there is a lot of joy when you make decisions that really benefit your life and i believe the most important relationship you have with another human in this world is with your spouse. I am very happy for you both!
Brendie,
You are so right. Your relationship with your spouse is critical!
Wow, your honesty is refreshing. Your life experience (learning from mistakes) can help others who hear your story. So happy for you and Claudia and your renewed vision for living life to the fullest!
Thanks for the support, Annette! Yeah, this is who we are. We don’t have it all figured out just yet.
