Meeting Good Friends In Person

June 27, 2012

Claudia and I just got back from spending three days with some good friends. We met up in a little town called Confluence, Pennsylvania at a bed and breakfast. We had folks there from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, and Texas.

Our view

We’ve realized the value of meeting with people who are doing similar things to what we’re doing. It can be a great time of encouraging one another and brainstorming new ideas.

This meetup was just that. We were able listen and share and get to know each other even better.

Plus, some of these friends I hadn’t met in person so it was great to finally do that!

Question: Do you have good friends you’ve never met with in person?

Yes, sure do and especially since joining FAA.   I’ve worked with particular individuals in my job for years and years and our only interaction is the phone, but we know about each others families and history.  It’s interesting how you build up this mental image of the person and then after a long time you happen to finally meet them.   So cool that everyone was able to meet up!  Are you all part of a regular group that Skype’s or talks regularly on the phone?  Those kinds of Mastermind groups can be powerful.

Michael, no we’re not. We met this group of people through FAA and on the blog here.
However, I am part of a guys group that meets via Skype and know how beneficial those can be.
Sounds like you’re speaking from experience. Are you part of a mastermind group that meets online?

Michael, No, I haven’t been part of a Mastermind group like that, but was aware of FAA members that were doing Google hangouts in a Mastermind group for business purposes.

There are a few good friends who I haven’t met in person. I’d love to finally meet them and put a physical meeting into our memories.

    • Michael Good June 27, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Totally, Joe. It was really nice to be able to do that this past weekend.

Absolutely! The work environment I was in for many years created opportunities such as the ones you described. I love those connections and the ability to build lasting friendships…real friendships. Today, the landscape may be different, but the opportunities are still there.

Awesome, Cindy. Isn’t it amazing how technology has change things? Not that it’s replaced meeting someone in person, but it sure is different now.

We loved it, as well! Very fun and beneficial! I would highly recommend it, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Ryan, I was great to finally meet you, Ashley, and Skyler! We came away with new perspective and energy for what we’re doing.

        Excellent! Mission accomplished! 😉

How was the trip back Ryan??

  • Ann J Musico June 27, 2012 at 11:35 am

Yes!!  And mostly through 48 Days.  It’s really amazing how small the world becomes through the computer.  It’s really awesome.

    • Michael Good June 28, 2012 at 9:02 am

Ann, 48 Days has been huge for me too. That’s really such a great group of people.

Last fall, I finally met some 48 Days friends in person and it was awesome!  It adds a whole level of depth to the relationship.  I’m hoping to meet some other online friends in person at Jon Acuff’s Quitter conference in September.  I’ll be there.  Anyone else going?

    • Michael Good June 28, 2012 at 9:38 pm

Sweet, Raun. It was the same for me when I got to meet many of the FAA folks last fall at an event.

I think Andy Traub will be at that event if you know him.

Where did you meet the 48 Days people?

      • Raun Lauterbach June 28, 2012 at 9:48 pm

I met with James Dibben and Josh Bulloc in Kansas City.  We took a little detour for a couple of days while on a trip to visit family in southern Missouri.  Totally worth the extra time and money.

I’d love to meet Andy in person.  Maybe it will work out.  We’ll see…

I’ll have to head back out your way sometime.  I’m a sucker for real shoo fly pie.  🙂

Just had shoo fly pie the other week!

We still have some good friends we have not met in person, but the list is dwindling. It was great getting to meet you guys, as well as the Ash’s! Much of the time, my journey seems to be solo, with my family kind of riding along. I was very glad to have Laura along and to have all of us share plans and dreams.

    • Claudia Good July 5, 2012 at 11:07 pm

      Mark,
I was indeed so great to meet you and Laura! That was huge that you could both be there together to share your plans and dreams like you said! You two have a fun dynamic and are a powerful team!

Blessings as you continue your journey Mark, you are a powerhouse of ideas and I think the ones you mentioned over the weekend have great potential!
