Video Results Of Photo Exercise

February 14, 2012

Recently I did an experiment and found the results to be very intriguing. While listening to a series on one’s calling in life by Gary Barkalow, he suggested a photo exercise.

The exercise is to glance through a series of  stock photos and save any that immediately grab your attention or make you take a second look. Take your time, but move fast through the pictures and save only the ones that immediately catch your eye.

Here’s the easiest way to do this:

  1. Create a new folder on your desktop.
  2. View millions of stock photos here.
  3. Right-click on the photos that grab your attention and click “save image as” selecting the folder you just created.

Next, go to that folder and review the photos looking for common themes. Do the photos include people or things? Do they include lots of color or little? Do they include action or tranquility? What emotions do they evoke?

These are the pictures that immediately grabbed my attention:

It was super interesting and revealing and helped me better understand myself. I have realized that, in whatever situation I am in, I long to nurture and provide healing, clarity, and hope.

Question: Have you ever thought about what photographs you are attracted to and why? I would love to see your slideshow. Post a link to your video in the comments.

Interesting idea. I’ll be doing this on Saturday.

BTW, Gary is a great guy that makes one think.

      Hey Joe,
Awesome man! Excited to see what you find! 🙂

How did you hear about Gary? Did you attend any of his conferences? We love his stuff!

Saw your blog. Love what you are doing there! I’ve never been to Michigan but have heard it is gorgeous. I also saw you are a commenter on Michael Hyatt’s blog. That is awesome! How do you know Michael?

        Hi Claudia!

I heard about Gary through Wild at Heart and then starting to really follow his work after Kevin Miller talked about him on Free Agent Underground.

Never been to one of Gary’s conferences but I would love to attend it one of these days. Just need to get the funds together and take the trip.

Have you or your husband attended any of Gary’s conferences? If so, what would you consider the highlight?

Thank you, I appreciate that you looked at the site and enjoy what you saw. I hope you’ll keep coming back.

I was introduced to Michael by Dan Miller. Been a big fan of Michael’s since. At the beginning of the year I was blessed with the honor of becoming a community leader at the website. It’s been a blast!

          Hey Joe,
We have not been to any of Gary’s conferences… but have listened to him a lot because Michael is presently in FAA! Are you in FAA presently?

That is awesome that you became a community leader. What a neat opportunity… and I’m sure as you said it is a blast!!

That is awesome that Michael is in FAA. How has he enjoyed his time there? I know I’ve learned tons just listening to the podcasts.

It is something that I have thought about but haven’t made the jump yet. Finances and time have been a hindrance but that may be changing soon. It seems like a great group to be involved in.

            Joe,
Michael has loved FAA! It has been an awesome community for us during our transition to self employment (Michael just recently quit his job and is starting a guitar lesson business).
He actually went out to one of their events 2 weeks after Jude was born. We were praying Jude would come on time so Michael could go… we felt like it was THAT important! And it really was. It was the impetus to our change in direction and start of this blog 😉

Did you search on any theme or how did you look for pics? And is that you on the classical?

    • Michael Good February 15, 2012 at 1:40 pm

The music is the 4th movement of Bach’s Violin Sonata No.2 in A minor played by Benjamin Verdery. Pretty sweet, uh?

      Dave,
We added the link for the photos we searched through. There are only a couple 😉
